What do you all think about wearing shorts in the office? I know most of my blog readers aren't office workers, but you might have an opinion on this subject anyway. I've seen three of my co-workers wear knee-length shorts to work. Their outfits look professional, but the fact that they are wearing shorts stands out so much when I see them. I'm trying to decide how I feel about this new trend. I have a couple of these s0-called "city shorts" that I bought last year, but I have not even considered wearing them to work until I saw these other employees. The issue has not been addressed by our office manager, so I am assuming the trend is allowed because they keep wearing them. What do y'all think?

my life in pictures
Ok, so I stole this from...well, pretty much everyone. So here goes.
Where I was born: Baptist South. Back then it didn't look as much like a hospital:
Where I live now: The Preferred Community (aka Prattville, AL). I'm not sure what this is even a picture of:
My name: Laura Goins. I look good for my age:
My grandmother: Beth Haupt. Obviously this is where I get my good looks:
Favorite food: macaroni & cheese. Although this plate doesn't look too appetizing:
Favorite Drink: If I'm being good, Diet Coke with lime. Mmmm...:
Favorite smell: fresh laundry. Not that I enjoy doing it, but it sure smells lovely:
Favorite song: I don't really have one. Sorry. But amazingly, there is still a picture for that answer:
Somewhere I've lived: Taylor Crossing Apartments.
Where I work: Colonial Insurance Agency. Apparently I commute to Wisconsin every day for work:
Where I would like to visit: Hawaii. This is me soaking in the sun:

I heart dogs.
I want a doggie. I've posted about this before, but I just heard a sad story that has further renewed my desire to own a pet dog.
One of the producers in our office is on the board for the Montgomery Humane Society. He was at a meeting this morning, where someone presented one of the dogs up for adoption. This particular dog was taken in when his owner was arrested for severe pet abuse. The dog had been chained up with a heavy duty chain for so long that the chain was starting to grow into his neck. He was so beaten & bloody. The shelter is required to keep the dog as long as the court case is unresolved. Apparently, they expect to resolve the case by tomorrow, at which point the shelter will probably have to put the dog down because they just don't have room for him. The shelter has to put down so many pets because there just isn't room for all of them. How sad is that!! This may sound like a commercial for pet adoption, but please - if you are considering getting a pet - PLEASE go to your local humane shelter and adopt one! It is so sad that these animals don't have homes.
And now, here are a few pictures of some of the dogs up for adoption at some of our local humane shelters. And if you are touched by this post and these pictures, feel free to respond by donating to the "Help Baron & Laura Build A Fence So They Can Adopt A Dog" Fund.

happy mother's day!!!
This is a little late, but I wanted to be sure & say Happy Mother's Day to my mama. I have THE best mom in the world! I hope one day I will be as good a mom to my kids as she has always been to us. Here is a little slide show I made for my mama.
Happy Mother's Day, mom! I love you bunches!!!
P.S. She didn't win the Y102 contest, but that is only because the winner had global internet support. I mean, come on - how are we supposed to beat that? But thanks to everyone who voted for my mom - she was one of the finalists!!

I love my husband :-)
Obviously, there are SO many things I could say about why I love my husband. But I just wanted to share this one thing because it's fresh on my mind. Yesterday was my birthday. Baron asked me awhile back what I wanted from him. I haven't been "allowed" to go shopping for awhile, so I told him I wanted either money or a gift card so I could finally buy some clothes. So yesterday, when I got home from my 10:00 a.m. lingerie shower (BOOOOO), I opened my birthday card from Baron to find my gift. Take a look:
Of course, he couldn't just give me money for my birthday. He had to make it special. And that is just one reason why I love him. He does his very best to please me in everything he does. But what I love about him even more is that he does that for everyone. He doesn't just go the extra mile, he goes two. So having said all that...here's to my hubby, who treats me like a princess every day!! I love you!!

shake-n-blake!!!
Ok so I am a HUGE American Idol fan. This season, my favorite is Blake Lewis. After last night, he should definitely be everyone's favorite! He gave a stellar performance. Thanks to Brooke, who posted this video on her blog so I could copy it. Enjoy the show! And if you aren't doing it already, VOTE FOR BLAKE!!!
