I heart dogs.

I want a doggie. I've posted about this before, but I just heard a sad story that has further renewed my desire to own a pet dog.

One of the producers in our office is on the board for the Montgomery Humane Society. He was at a meeting this morning, where someone presented one of the dogs up for adoption. This particular dog was taken in when his owner was arrested for severe pet abuse. The dog had been chained up with a heavy duty chain for so long that the chain was starting to grow into his neck. He was so beaten & bloody. The shelter is required to keep the dog as long as the court case is unresolved. Apparently, they expect to resolve the case by tomorrow, at which point the shelter will probably have to put the dog down because they just don't have room for him. The shelter has to put down so many pets because there just isn't room for all of them. How sad is that!! This may sound like a commercial for pet adoption, but please - if you are considering getting a pet - PLEASE go to your local humane shelter and adopt one! It is so sad that these animals don't have homes.

And now, here are a few pictures of some of the dogs up for adoption at some of our local humane shelters. And if you are touched by this post and these pictures, feel free to respond by donating to the "Help Baron & Laura Build A Fence So They Can Adopt A Dog" Fund.

  1. I want them all!! We already have four dogs - all inside! I was the one that was never going to have a dog, let alone in the house. Now we have four mutts, from really big to small. They sleep with us. I hate going anywhere near PetSmart when they have adoption day because I want to take them home with me. All of our dogs have been "rescued" in one way or the other. How can anyone be mean to these sweet creatures?? I think these people must go straight to hell.

  2. I don't know how people can be so abusive to animals..it was growing into his neck? so sad.

We're all about going to shelters. You get animals there who appreciate their new found homes full of love.

  3. How about a kitten? Mark and Lindsay have some that are mouse-sized. Have you considered a stuffed dog? No fence, no poop, no pet-sitters, no vet bills, no grooming bills, no 50-pound bags of dog food--of course they don't turn inside-out when you come home from work, but that is what Baron is for.

  4. Jamey - yes, it was growing into his neck. Not sure how that happens, but it's horrible.

Kenny - Reba is my favorite!

Dad - I'm not really a cat person...they're so serious all the time. :-)

    Belinda - who are you?
