HELP!!!

I have the brownest thumb EVER. I bought these flowers a couple of weeks ago, and look at them! What is my problem? I water them whenever the soil is dry. When it rains, of course I don't water them. There is fertilizer in the soil. They perk up when I water them, but am I watering them too much? What did I do wrong?? Green thumbs, comment please!!

This is what they are SUPPOSED to look like:

{Aztec Red Verbena}

  1. how much sun are they getting? I think verbena is a full sun plant.

  2. That was going to be my first question... try switching locations. The soil looks dry form the pictures... maybe try some new soil. Where did you buy them? That could have made the difference, too.

  3. uh..... sorry; I'm probably worse than you are with plants. I don't know why they don't like me?!

  4. I bought them at Southern Homes & Gardens, so they should be good plants. They were the best looking ones there when I got them. They are in the front of the house, so they get full sun from about 6am to at least 1pm. I had been watering them every day, exept on days when it rained (which has been a lot recently). I didn't water them yesterday because I wanted to see if maybe I'm watering them too much. Haha, Jamey...I'm glad I'm not the only one! It's so sad. I want flowers so badly.

  5. ummm....that's a good one. My final suggestion. What kind of soil did you use? If its cheap stuff like from WM, then dump it and get the good stuff. Also, check for ants under the base. Those two things happened to our flowers...good luck.

  6. I see there is a Copeland Security sign next to the planter. Most of their employees are big snuff users and maybe they are spitting that poison on your plants? Oh yeah, it also seems to be positioned along the drip line of the roof. If so, they could be taking a pounding in the past few weeks. Probably snuff, though.
